This one has me tearing my hair out.

My second works computer went down a week or so ago with

No boot devices were found system halted

I assumed it was a hard drive failure. Bought a new hard drive and set about reinstalling XP. But keep getting no fixed disk present. Found various fixes for this about downloading drivers hitting F6 during set up and installing the drivers which I have done but still no joy and no hard drives present.

Tried installing Win98 as the box was originally that OS. Same general error of no HD present.

So I took out the HD of a sister machine which works no problem and still got the

No boot devices were found system halted

Tried IDE cable from the sister machice still no joy. Havce check all connections removed every card and replaced all ensuring all connections made.

I am at a loss of what to try next, any ideas?

Well, if the controller built into the mobo is bad then it's time for a new mobo. Are all the IDE and SATA (whichever you're using) enabled in the bios? Boot order hasn't gone wonky? RAID not accidently enabled?

Boot order set up & all IDE drives show in the BIOS with no raid set up.

If the mobo has gone then probably it will be consigned to the rubbish heap. The box is already 7 years old.
