I caught this on the HBO last week. Starring Samuel Jackson.....about the adventures of a violin built back in the 1600's or so (varnished with a mix of varnish and......)from the wife of it's Luthier. Samuel is a collector in current time seeking the red vioin. THe movie reverts back and forth to different times and owners thru the centuries....ending up in a current auction in NY I think. Very artsy, romantic, sexy, mysterious...well worth catching or even buy the DVD if you can find it.

Just to make you more interested, what made the violin red was the blood of the Luthiers dead wife mixed into the varnish he finished this one of a kind masterpiece. He loved her so much he wanted to immortalize her thru his craft. The brush he painted it with was made of her hair. WOW!

It is weird but in a romantic way. This violin ended up "selling" for more than a Strad of nearly the same age.......about 400 years. It was on again last night.
