I've had Hidef for some time now and love it. It's watching TV at a whole new level, especially when you watch movies on BluRay or DirectTV. The Experience is so much better than watching a regular TV. I will never go back.
Also the TV you picked is very nice, I would stick with your selection. Get a Sony Playstaion 3 to play BluRay disks on because it's much better then buying a stand alone BluRay player. If you have Satalite TV then get the HD package this not only gives you the best picture possible but also gives you 7.1 dolby surround instead of 5.1
I didn't buy the extended warranty either, what it comes down to is what your comfortable with, personally I don't think there worth it but if something were to go wrong you would have a safety net.

I tend to agree. It's an extra $250 - 300 at least. Although most TVs offer only 1 year warranty, I'm reading that the newest LCDs are pretty reliable...especially Sony. Then a Blu Ray player won't be far behind. I'm holding off on buying any new movies for Blu Ray.

BluRay is the only thing that I have now and seriously a Sony Playstation 3 is still the best BluRay player out there. I you read the reviews on CNET then they all say that it still don't stack up to the PS3. The PS3 is faster in load time and it plays the DVD's in a much clearer picture. And the PS3 will play regular DVD's too and Up converts them from 480i to 720p which ia must for any HDTV.
Since DVD's are on the way out and HDDVD no longer exists BluRay is the only thing left standing.
The only thing I've heard is that LCD is better than Plasma especially for video games. My sister and brother in law did research on it when they knew they were getting the Wii.
